Finding Joy in Movement

There’s more to Group Exercise than just a workout. At the YMCA of Central Florida, our classes are an opportunity to move your body, care for your health, meet new people, and find a routine that works for you.

As part of our Fit Together campaign, we’re introducing you to the incredible Group Exercise instructors who help bring our classes and our community to life.

Meet Jessica, one of our Group Exercise instructors at the Y!

From HIIT and Core to Gentle Yoga and Chair Yoga, Jessica brings a variety of movement styles to the Y. While each class may look a little different, her approach is consistent: fitness should bring you joy, laughter, and a sense of community.

Jessica has one piece of advice for anyone looking to find their place in Group Exercise: Treat it like a buffet.

Try different classes. Meet different instructors. Explore different times and formats. You might discover that the class you never thought you’d try becomes the one you look forward to every week.

And there’s a reason variety matters. Different types of movement can support different aspects of your overall health and wellness, from cardiovascular health and muscular strength to flexibility, balance, mobility, and stress management.

HIIT
High-Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT, combines periods of challenging movement with recovery to help build cardiovascular fitness, strength and endurance. It can be a great option when you’re looking for an energizing workout that challenges your whole body.

Core
A strong core supports much more than your next workout. Core-focused exercise can help improve stability, balance and functional strength, making everyday movements easier and supporting your body as you stay active.

Gentle Yoga
Gentle Yoga offers a slower-paced approach to movement with an emphasis on flexibility, mobility, balance, and mindful breathing. It can be a welcoming option for anyone looking to move with intention while giving their body space to stretch, strengthen, and recover.

Chair Yoga
Movement doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. Chair Yoga incorporates yoga-based movements and breathing exercises that can be performed seated or with the support of a chair. It can help participants work on flexibility, mobility, balance, and overall body awareness in an approachable environment.

At the Y, we believe taking care of your health means caring for your whole self. That includes finding ways to move that support your physical health while also creating opportunities to connect with others and build healthy routines that can last.

That’s one of the things that makes Group Exercise special. You’re not simply walking into a room to complete a workout. You’re joining a community.

You may recognize the instructor who greets you by name. You may meet someone who becomes your workout buddy. You may find a class that becomes part of your weekly routine. And you may leave feeling just as connected as you do accomplished.

Whether you’re looking to build strength, improve flexibility, support your cardiovascular health, manage stress, or simply find a fun way to stay active, there’s a Group Exercise class waiting for you.
