This division is designed for players who are competent in the sport. It includes both “Beginner” and “Intermediate” level players. Recreational play in a tournament setting focuses on players having fun while performing at their highest possible level. Match rules will be determined by each family center. Traditional Scoring or Rally Scoring may be used. Scoring rules and rotations may be adjusted based on scheduling needs. Balls will be provided; just bring your paddles!
Competitive Players: (3.1-5.0)
This is designed for those who are coming in to play at a high level. High skill and mobility during match play is expected. Competitive play will be a collection of “Intermediate” to “Advanced” players. Match rules will be determined by each family center. Traditional Scoring or Rally Scoring may be used. Scoring rules and rotations may be adjusted based on scheduling needs. Balls will be provided; just bring your paddles!
Q: How will I see the tournament playing schedule?
A: The Sports Director/Coordinator will send all tournament information, including the schedule, via email days prior to the event.
Q: How are teams formed?
A: Players need to communicate with the Sports Director/Coordinator and provide their partner’s first and last name, email, and their preferred division and skill level after payment.
Q: Do I need to pay twice if playing in two divisions?
A: Yes, players are required to pay for each division they enter.
1) Every participant needs to bring their own paddle
2) Teams are expected to check in 15 minutes before their first game. Failure to do so may result in disqualification with no refunds or vouchers.
3) Team members are set and final which means that no changes are allowed to be made injury and absence included. No refunds or vouchers.
4) YMCA Pickleball etiquette will be expected:
- Stop play when the ball goes over to your court
- Friendly environment
- All players are expected to follow code of conduct
5) Forfeits will be logged as 11-0 in favor of the winner
6) Non championship games will be played to 11. Teams will have to win by two:
- If we fall behind schedule, we will change the scoring system to rally. Games will be played to 21 points (win by two)
7) Championship games will be played to 11 in a best 2 out of 3 formats. Teams will have to win by two.
8) After each game, the teams will switch sides. If teams go to the third game, teams will switch sides when a team makes it to 6 points.
9) Games will be refereed by players. Players are expected to make honest calls. We will have staff members monitoring games to make sure that fair play is being followed.
10) When a game is over, it is expected for players to go to a staff member (table) to tell them the scores of the games. We need to record which team won and the scores of the games.
11) Tiebreakers will be decided on a head-to-head basis first. After a head-to-head basis, tiebreakers will be decided with differences of point margins.
(EX. Team A has a 1-1 record winning their first game 11-6 and losing their second game 2-11 while Team B has the same record and won their first game 11-9 and lost their second game 4-11. This results in team A having a +/- of –4 while team B has a +/- of –5. This results in team A having a better record and earning a higher seed than team B)
12) We will be using 3 courts for the pickleball tournament. There will be signs for each court. It is expected for players to know what court they are playing on.
13) Games are expected to start at the allotted time. If games prior end early and teams would like to start to play before their schedule time that will be fine, however you must inform a staff member
