The YMCA of Central Florida Launches Online Services for all Central Florida Veterans

ORLANDO, Fla. – (April 6, 2020)

Central Florida can stay healthy in spirit, mind, and body from the comfort of home.

The YMCA of Central Florida is partnering with the Orlando VA Healthcare System (OVAHCS) to provide the opportunity for veterans and their families to stay healthy using the Y's new online Virtual YMCA Wellness Center. This includes no-cost, fitness-streaming platforms and wellness resources to Veterans and loved ones for the foreseeable future. As facilities have temporarily closed and many Central Florida Veterans are working from home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Y has been diligently working to build and move resources online to help the community stay connected, active, and healthy.

Some of the services, resources, and information available on the Y’s VWC include:

  • The Y’s best instructors through free on-demand programs and classes like Boot Camp, Barre, Yoga, and low-impact programs for seniors. The Y plans to release more exercise classes and activities for Veterans and loved ones throughout March and April.
  • The Y partnered with LES MILLS to provide on-demand, group exercise classes that include 95 workout options, including BODYPUMP®, Yoga Flow, and Born to Move, a program that keeps children ages 2–16 active.
  • Veterans can try nutritious and simple recipes and speak with a virtual chef for expert advice on eating healthy.
  • The Y is providing chaplain support and a virtual prayer wall to keep the community united in faith.
  • Enrichment activities to keep veterans' children active and having fun at home are also available.

For a list of all resources, visit our Virtual YMCA Wellness Center.

During this unprecedented time, the Y and the Orlando VA Medical Center remain committed to providing the Veteran community with valuable resources to stay healthy and active from any location. The Y is honored to expand the virtual wellness to our American heroes and their families. Since our inception, finding ways for all of us to stay healthy in Spirit, Mind, and Body has been our aim.
