Healthy Family Day 2026: Stronger Families. Stronger Communities.

On August 1, families across Central Florida came together for Healthy Family Day, a free, family-friendly YMCA community event designed to bring people together through sports, wellness, family programs, and community connection.

Hosted across 14 YMCA of Central Florida locations, Healthy Family Day gave families the opportunity to try something new, get active, explore YMCA programs, connect with community organizations, and discover ways to stay engaged as summer comes to a close and fall routines begin.

This year’s event was part of ESPN’s Take Back Sports movement, in partnership with Disney, bringing free multisport clinics and hands-on YMCA experiences to families throughout the day. From basketball, volleyball, soccer, and flag football to aquatics, Group Exercise, family activities, and more, there was something for everyone to explore.

At the heart of Healthy Family Day were free sports clinics held from 10 AM to 1 PM, giving families the opportunity to learn new skills, try different sports, and build confidence in a welcoming environment.

Across Central Florida, 572 participants took part in the sports clinics, experiencing everything from basketball and volleyball to soccer and flag football.

YMCA of Central Florida’s professional sports partners helped make the day even more special. The Orlando Magic hosted three 30-minute basketball clinics at the Dr. P. Phillips and Lake Nona YMCAs, giving young athletes the chance to learn from and experience the game in a new way. WWE also brought sports and entertainment to the Roper YMCA with special clinics for local families.

The goal was simple: create a space where families could try something new, have fun, and discover that sports can be a place to build confidence, friendships, teamwork, and lifelong healthy habits.

While sports were a major part of Healthy Family Day, the event was also an opportunity to showcase the full breadth of what the YMCA offers and the impact it has on families and communities every day.

Families could experience free Group Exercise demonstrations, learn about Personal Training and wellness offerings, explore swimming activities, take on wellness obstacle courses, discover youth and family programs, and participate in open-house experiences throughout their local Y.

More than simply showcasing programs, the event gave families a glimpse into how the Y supports the whole person and the whole family. Whether it’s helping someone build confidence through a new activity, creating connections through fitness, providing opportunities for healthy living, or giving children a safe place to learn and grow, the Y is here to meet people where they are.

With membership options designed to meet people at different stages of their fitness and wellness journey, the Y makes it easier to find the support, resources, and community you need to take care of your health today and invest in your well-being for the future.

Healthy Family Day brought that mission to life by giving families the chance to experience the Y, discover something new, and see firsthand how the Y helps strengthen individuals, families, and communities. From sports and wellness to youth development and community connection, there truly is something for everyone at the Y.

Healthy Family Day was made even stronger by the incredible community partners who joined us in supporting Central Florida families. Together, they brought resources, services, learning opportunities, and experiences that made the day about more than just staying active, it was about helping families thrive.

From free haircuts from Moore Payne Law and Makk’s Barber Shop to CPR demonstrations, library literacy programs, healthy eats from Uno’s, and hands-on learning activities with Mathnasium, families had opportunities to learn something new, connect with local organizations, and discover resources they can carry with them beyond the event.

Our community partners helped create a welcoming, engaging experience for families while showcasing the incredible organizations, businesses, and resources that make Central Florida stronger.

The impact continued beyond the event itself:

5,498 community members participated across Central Florida.

572 children and families participated in free sports clinics, creating opportunities to try new sports and build confidence.

198 children registered for Fall 1 Youth Sports, giving them an opportunity to stay active, develop new skills, and build confidence and teamwork throughout the fall season.

153 new YMCA members joined a welcoming community where they can continue to move, connect, and grow year-round.

Everyone who participated in a sports clinic received YMCA sports swag, while families who registered for Fall 1 Youth Sports or joined the YMCA received exclusive YMCA swag bags to help carry the Healthy Family Day experience into the season ahead.

As summer winds down and families transition into new schedules and routines, Healthy Family Day offered a chance to look ahead and discover ways to stay active and connected.

For the 198 children who registered for Fall 1 Youth Sports, the day became the beginning of a season filled with movement, skill-building, teamwork, and confidence.

For the 153 individuals who joined the YMCA, Healthy Family Day became an introduction to a community where they can continue to find opportunities to move, grow, and belong.

And for the thousands of families who participated, it was a reminder that staying healthy and connected can be a family experience.

Healthy Family Day reflects the YMCA of Central Florida’s commitment to strengthening communities by creating accessible opportunities for families to be active, discover new interests, build meaningful connections, and develop healthy habits that last well beyond one day.

We are grateful to the families, volunteers, team members, community partners, and sports organizations who helped make Healthy Family Day 2026 possible.
