YMCA of Central Florida Receives Unexpected Gift from Mackenzie Scott

The YMCA of Central Florida is honored and humbled to learn that it was selected as one of 384 organizations to receive an unsolicited and incredibly generous donation from advocate and renowned philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. The surprise gift from Ms. Scott was announced to the Y after learning she and her team thoroughly researched and vetted nearly 6,500 organizations on the strength of their leadership team and their track record of delivering meaningful results in addressing basic needs and systemic inequities in their communities.

We are overjoyed by this unexpected blessing and deeply grateful to Ms. Scott for her generosity. It is a tremendous affirmation and testament to the positive impact the Y makes across Central Florida every day to strengthen our community and ensure that everyone has the same opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Even during this very challenging year, the Y was able to pivot and continue to meet critical needs and re-imagine new ways to serve neighbors. This work would not be possible without the dedication of our Y staff and the collective support of our volunteers, donors, members, and partners.

— Dan Wilcox, President & CEO, YMCA of Central Florida

The Y will be working closely with its metropolitan board of directors to carefully evaluate the best use of Ms. Scott’s gift. Pete Krzyzak, YMCA Metropolitan Board of Directors Chair added, “We will ensure every dollar is wisely stewarded to amplify the Y’s impact and create lasting positive change in the lives of neighbors across Central Florida in spirit, mind, and body. As a leading nonprofit, the Y knows the needs have never been greater. We hope Ms. Scott’s generous act will inspire other donors to support the Y in this time of need so we can help those who rely on the Y.”
