YMCA Pilots Technology-Based Partnership At Three Family Centers

Y goal is to provide residents with tools to set, track, aspire and celebrate good health habits

Orlando, FL – The YMCA of Central Florida today announced a partnership with Technogym ™ , a world leading company supplying products, services and solutions in wellness and fitness. The new Technogym ™ equipment and the mywellness cloud, the first and only open platform that allows fitness enthusiasts and operators to see all of their workout information collected from their third party fitness and device partners and Technogym equipment in one place, will debut Feb. 3, 2015 at three Central Florida Y locations: Dr. P. Phillips YMCA, Roper YMCA and the Frank Deluca YMCA in Marion County. This partnership came together to get ahead of changes due to the United States Department of Health & Human Services’ Affordable Care Act, which puts emphasis on population management, and encourages the promotion of good health and wellness habits. As the first partnership of its kind in the US, the Y’s goal is to implement these interactive tracking tools to make it easier for health seekers to plan and maintain their comprehensive wellness routine anytime from anywhere, including exercise and nutrition. In some cases, these participants will also earn healthcare cost savings by reporting their activity to their employer and/or health insurer. “At the Y, we are joining together with healthcare partners to pilot how the community can provide wellness care versus sick care,” said Dan Wilcox, President & CEO at the YMCA of Central Florida. “We believe these new tools, coupled with existing support programs, will transform how insurers and physicians provide care to their employees and customers. We also think those insured will begin to see long term financial savings attributed to a healthier lifestyle.” To create more personalized fitness experiences and curb chronic disease for residents, the YMCA of Central Florida has created new partnerships and is investing millions of dollars to help Central Florida residents live healthier, more vibrant lives. “Technogym’s mywellness cloud is an invaluable platform for wellness enthusiasts to truly track their fitness regimens and get the most out of their workouts,” said Marco Buchbinder, CEO, Technogym North America. “Technogym wants to empower local communities to combat health problems and obesity all across the world, and this is a key example of how the company is partnering with a trusted partner like the Central Florida YMCA to revolutionize wellness.” Through a $500,000 grant from the West Orange Healthcare District, Orlando Health and the Roper Y are collaborating to extend their current patient rehabilitation services and promote preventative related health programs and seminars. “Improving community health isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, said Lainie Fox Ackerman, JD, Orlando Health’s Community Benefit Director.” “The Y, which serves people of all ages and incomes, understands this. It’s about helping all people develop a more holistic, preventative approach to health. And we can achieve more together.” About the YMCA of Central Florida The YMCA of Central Florida is one of the area’s largest nonprofits committed to strengthening communities across Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Lake and Marion counties and the local communities it serves.
