YMCA of Central Florida Elects Mike Manuel 2015-2016 Metropolitan Board Chair and 10 New Board Members

[caption id="attachment_37240" align="alignleft" width="300"]Mike Manuel, 2015 Annual Scholarship Campaign Chair Mike Manuel, 2015 - 2016 Metropolitan Board of Directors Chair[/caption] ORLANDO, FL – (June 22, 2015) – At its annual meeting June 16, the YMCA of Central Florida elected Mike Manuel as 2015 - 2016 Chair of its Metropolitan Board of Directors.  As the Y’s top volunteer officer, Manuel will work with 61 other volunteer board members plus staff to guide the organization serving 235,000 residents in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Brevard, Lake and Marion counties. Manuel, a former finance executive with EXP US Services and Wachovia Bank, has been an active YMCA volunteer leader for several years and currently serves as Metro Board Treasurer and as a member of the Metro Audit Committee. In addition to formerly chairing the Metro Finance Committee, Manuel is currently leading the YMCA’s 2014-2015 Annual Support Campaign, which has set a goal by year’s end to raise $3,580,000 to provide YMCA program and membership assistance to children and families in need. A graduate of Florida State University, Manuel has also been an active volunteer with the Florida Hospital Foundation Executive Board, the American Cancer Society, Seminole Boosters Inc., United Way, and the Florida Citrus Sports Foundation. “The Y serves a very unique role in the community as a cause which serves the entire family with programs and services to help both kids and adults reach their highest potential in spirit, mind and body,” said Manuel. “Every day, nearly 35,000 people walk through the doors of our Y facilities or participate in a Y program. Each one is looking for something different, but everyone finds something good – a way to be stronger, whole and healthy. It is a privilege to serve the organization and our community in this role.” In addition to Manuel’s election, 10 new board members were elected for two-year terms 2015 – 2016. New board members include:

  • Charlie Freeman, Orlando Magic, Executive Vice President/Chief Revenue Officer
  • Charlie Roper, Roper Growers, President/General Manager
  • Marcia Hope-Goodwin, Chief Service Officer, City of Orlando
In bringing young, emerging Y leaders up through the organization, the following YMCA Teen Ambassadors were also elected to serve on the board:
  • Kalese Justice, Florida Virtual School, Class of 2016
  • Robbie Knight, Olympia High School, Class of 2016
