The YMCA of Central Florida Welcomes Dr. Kathryn Shuler to Metro Board

The YMCA of Central Florida announced today that Dr. Kathryn Shuler, the Chief Academic Officer for Orange County Public Schools and long-time Y member, has joined our Metropolitan Board of Directors.

Pete Krzyzak, Chair of the YMCA of Central Florida Metropolitan Board of Directors, said, “The YMCA and OCPS have a long-standing partnership with a common goal of helping the children of Orange County reach their highest potential. We look forward to Dr. Shuler’s leadership and contribution to help the Y continue to make a positive, lasting impact on our kids and our entire community.”

Dr. Shuler and her husband have been members at the Roper YMCA in Winter Garden for 15 years and have even been volunteer coaches for the Youth Sports program. During Dr. Shuler’s distinguished career, she has held roles of increasing responsibility at Orange County Public Schools, progressing as a teacher, administrative dean, assistant principal, associate superintendent, and now Chief Academic Officer. In her current role, Dr. Shuler supervises the Curriculum and Instruction department. She leads a dynamic team of individuals, focusing on the learning environment by improving teacher quality, leadership capacity, parental involvement, and community partnerships to close the achievement gap.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Shuler to the YMCA Board of Directors,” added Dan Wilcox, President & CEO of the YMCA of Central Florida. “Her passion for the Y, combined with her expertise in helping shape the success of today’s youth, will prove tremendously valuable in the work we do each day.”

Dr. Shuler states, “It is a privilege to serve on the Metro Board of Directors of the YMCA of Central Florida. The YMCA played an important role in my life as a young person, and now I look forward to giving back to others across our community through the Y.”
