Volunteer Packing Food for Food Distribution

The YMCA of Central Florida offers Food Distribution for Neighbors in Need

ORLANDO, Fla. – (April 29, 2020)

To help support the members of our community in need, the YMCA of Central Florida will host free food distribution at several Y locations for the second week. Two hundred packages of food will be provided, in addition to other household supplies, on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Oviedo YMCA, Dr. P Phillips YMCA, and Wayne Densch YMCA. The distribution will take place on Thursday, April 30 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

  • Oviedo YMCA (7900 Red Bug Lake Rd, Oviedo, FL 32765)
  • Dr. P. Phillips YMCA (7000 Dr. Phillips Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819)
  • Wayne Densch YMCA (870 N Hastings St, Orlando, FL 32808)

To prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), foodborne illness, and cross-contamination, all fruits, vegetables, and items will be distributed in a safe, clean, and sanitary manner. Social distancing and safety procedures will be in place, such as limiting the number of volunteers on-site to fewer than ten, placing supplies in the trunks of participants’ vehicles, and maintaining a distance of six feet between individuals. The safety and health of community members, staff, and volunteers is of the utmost importance throughout the distribution.

In order to receive the food and supplies, interested parties should arrive at the participating locations during the designated time frame. The YMCA family center locations will remain closed to the public. Staff and volunteers will maintain all food safety and social distancing procedures during food preparation and distribution, including wearing gloves, face masks, and instructing individuals to remain in their vehicle. During this unprecedented time, the YMCA of Central Florida remains committed to supporting the community in the safest ways possible. It is the aim of the Y to improve lives through empowering the Spirit, Mind, and Body in the Central Florida community. Providing this service is part of the charitable mission and community prosperity the Y has championed since its inception.
