On May 2, 2020, the Florida State Alliance of YMCAs made community history! YMCAs across the state hosted the first-ever virtual Healthy Community Day for everyone to come together to share in some family fun while remaining safely apart. Because we’ve missed our members, program participants, and everyone else in our Y family, our staff put together a day full of learning, fitness, and fun for all ages. Check out some of the awesome activities we had in store!
Starting bright and early, we set runners, walkers, and joggers to their marks for a Virtual 5K! Moving further into our morning, we got moving with a few fitness routines, including a high energy BODYPUMP and an invigorating active older adult strength-building course.
Chef Gary ushered in the lunch hour with a strong entry of Zucchini Nachos in response to the Y’s challenge that he use ingredients handed out at our food distributions. After lunch, the little ones got busy with a STEM activity, Y-Spy scavenger hunt, a family fitness workout, and the YMCA Sports Challenge!
Then we ended the day of fun and fitness with aquatic storytime as “Josh the Otter” taught us about water safety. If you haven’t already, head over to collect your Virtual 5k medal and your Sports Challenge badge.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our first-ever virtual Healthy Community Day, and to the amazing Y staff that made it happen. Whether you joined in for one of our workouts, set the kiddos to work on an activity, or just left us a comment to say hello, we’re so thankful to have awesome neighbors like you that share our passion for strengthening our community. Because we all came together, Healthy Community Day 2020 was a success!
