Walking into a gym for the first time or joining your first group exercise class can feel a little intimidating. But at the YMCA, there’s no reason to feel “gym”timidated! Everyone was new once and our community is here to support you, cheer you on and help you find how you Fit Together at the Y.

No one starts as a fitness expert! Every person you see lifting weights, running on the treadmill or crushing it in a class once walked in for the first time too.

Our Y staff and instructors love helping members. Unsure how to adjust a machine or which group exercise class to try? Just ask! There’s no such thing as a silly question—only opportunities to learn.

The Y is more than just workouts—it’s community. Participate in social events, fitness challenges, fundraising opportunities or family activities to meet other members. The more familiar faces you see, the more at home you’ll feel.

Group exercise classes are a great way to meet new people, have fun and stay motivated. Don’t worry about experience—our instructors provide modifications for all fitness levels. Let them know it’s your first class and consider bringing a friend for extra support.
