Backpack Giveaway at the Wayne Densch YMCA

 ORLANDO, Fla. – (July 27, 2020)

The Wayne Densch YMCA will be hosting a backpack giveaway in collaboration with the Pine Hills Neighborhood Center for Families and with funding from Orange County. The aim is to provide the community’s elementary, middle, and high school students with school supplies for the upcoming school year at no cost to their families.

The backpack giveaway will consist of approximately 260 backpacks, and will take place at the Wayne Densch YMCA family center, located at 870 N Hastings St., Orlando, FL 32808, on Thursday, July 30 at 2:00 pm, until supplies last.

All items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and student must be present to receive a backpack. To ensure the health and safety of all participants and volunteers, this event will operate as a drive-through. Participants will be asked to provide their first name in order to receive the supplies.

The Y asks that anyone wishing to participate in the backpack giveaway remain in their vehicle upon arrival and await instructions from the volunteers on-site. If the items cannot be placed in the vehicle without the participant exiting, the volunteers will maintain six feet of physical distance until the participant has reentered the vehicle.

All volunteers will be wearing face masks in accordance with county mandates and will maintain appropriate physical distance to ensure the health and safety of all participants and volunteers.

In the event participants arrive after supplies have been depleted, on-site volunteers will have further information about local supply giveaways as an alternative.

Strengthening the youth in the Central Florida community is integral to the YMCA of Central Florida’s mission and cause. Regardless of the format in which the community’s students will return to school for the upcoming school year, it’s vital that they are prepared with the proper supplies to aid them in success.
