On August 3, we honored our local military families with a special Military Appreciation Back-to-School Bash at the Osceola County YMCA Family Center, Titusville YMCA Family Center, and Frank Deluca YMCA Family Center in partnership with One More Child, VA, Homes for Heroes, and more.
The back-to-school bash, which included backpack giveaways to military families, community services, and recreational activities such as inflatable obstacles and face painting, is part of a statewide YMCA initiative to bring family centers together to share YMCA resources and information to help military service members and their loved ones come together and thrive.
Leading up to this event, 11 family centers throughout Central Florida helped to collect backpacks and school supplies through a back-to-school drive in July. Thanks to the generosity of our members, volunteers, staff, and community, we were able to serve more than 200 kids and their families with their back-to-school needs.
