Local YMCA hosts annual Summer Zone event to celebrate youth achievements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 17, 2023) — The YMCA of Central Florida hosted its annual Summer Zone Showcase, the highly anticipated culmination of its summer camp program for middle school-aged children. The celebration provides a unique opportunity for youth participants to share and exhibit the skills they have acquired, setting the stage for a vibrant showcase of talent, teamwork and personal growth.

“At the YMCA, we believe in investing in the development of our youth and the Summer Zone program allows us to witness their incredible growth and achievements firsthand," said Jessica Bauer-Colon, executive director of school programs at YMCA Central Florida. "The skills they have learned this summer will nurture the full potential of our students.”

The Summer Zone Showcase took place July 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Conway Middle School, and featured a range of exciting activities, including an all-day basketball tournament, captivating performing arts performances and a thrilling culinary arts “Top Chef” style competition.

The basketball tournament will brought out the competitive spirit in young athletes as they exhibit their skills and teamwork on the court. The captivating performing arts showcase featured music, dance and other creative expressions, demonstrating the diverse talents and passions of campers. Lastly, the culinary arts competition allowed young chefs to demonstrate their culinary prowess.

YMCA's Summer Zone program, an integral component of the YMCA's After School Zone initiative, is dedicated to empowering youth and fostering their holistic development. Funded by Citizens’ Commission for Children, the event is not only a celebration of the summer camp experience but also a testament to the power of collaboration and community engagement.
