In honor of World Drowning Prevention Day, Fox 35 Orlando sat down with our very own John Lewis, Associate Vice President of Aquatics at the YMCA of Central Florida, to discuss the importance of swim safety.
With drowning being the second leading cause of death among children five to 14 years old, we believe swimming is a life-saving skill every child must learn to stay safe and have fun in and around water.
Through our year-round programs like Safety Around Water and Safe Start, we teach infants how to float, rest, breathe, and recover in case of an accidental fall into a body of water. We also provide group and private swim lessons for all ages to reduce the risks associated with drowning.
“It’s never too late to learn how to swim,” said John Lewis, Associate Vice President of Aquatics at the YMCA of Central Florida. “Whether you’re a young adult or an older adult, anyone is welcome to take lessons at the YMCA.”
