Orlando, FL ─ (Nov. 19, 2015): The YMCA of Central Florida today announced that Walter E. Larisey, former CEO of the YMCA of Tuscaloosa County (Alabama) has been named the new executive director of the Oviedo YMCA Family Center.
An Iraq war veteran and Purple Heart recipient, Larisey first joined the Tuscaloosa YMCA in 2011, following a distinguished career with the U.S. Marine Corps. While serving as CEO of the Tuscaloosa YMCA, Larisey launched and led a successful $3 million capital campaign to build a new downtown Y. He also secured the donation a major building to house a YMCA child and adult resource center for at-risk youth.
In his new role with the YMCA of Central Florida, Larisey will lead the Oviedo YMCA family center’s day-to-day operations, as well as community development and financial development initiatives.
“We are excited and honored to welcome Walt Larisey to the Oviedo YMCA,” said Jody Alexander, YMCA District Vice President. “Walt’s background, leadership and financial development skills will be a tremendous asset to our Y as we seek to expand our mission and empower our community for good.”
A graduate of the University of Alabama, Larisey earned a B.S. degree in Business Management in 2004. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marines as a second lieutenant and served two tours of duty as a platoon commander in Iraq. He later went on to serve as a Marine officer training instructor in Quantico, VA, and as a senior consultant for Booze Allen Hamilton, a government consulting firm.
In addition to earning a Purple Heart, Larisey holds the U.S. Navy’s Commendation Medal for combat valor. He continues to serve in the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves. A married father of three, Larisey enjoys golf, running, coaching youth sports and spending time with his family.
