Aquatic Fitness Classes

Class Descriptions

Whether you’re looking for a refreshing dip during your workout or an advanced fitness routine, the Y’s pools have just the class for you on our schedule.

Each class may not be available at every family center. Please check your family center’s schedule to see what’s offered at your YMCA!

This class can be senior-friendly.

Advanced Swim Workout
In this class, participants work closely with a swim coach to improve technique and maximize swimming strengths. Coaches create workout programs to challenge intermediate and advanced swimmers.

Aqua Fit Deep
This low-impact class is performed in deeper water and is designed to improve joint stability, coordination, heart health, and strength. The class will incorporate cardio and strength, using water dumbbells and flotation belts.

Aqua Fit Shallow
This low-impact class is performed in shallow water and is designed to improve joint stability, coordination, heart health, and strength. The class will incorporate cardio and strength, using water dumbbells and flotation belts.

Joints in Motion
Enhance your range of motion in the warm therapy pool. This class will leave you relaxed and will help promote your movement throughout the rest of your day and soothe the muscles with light stretches to finish. Non-swimmers welcome.

Water Tabata
Tabata interval training is one of the most effective types of high-intensity interval training. Mixing this format with the properties of water through a variety of simple yet intense exercises allows each class to blast away the calories and provide noticeable results in a short amount of time.

Water Walking
Enjoy a new class each time you dive into the pool! Water Walking includes freestyle walking and movements to help keep your joints stable and increase stamina and core strength.
