Tangelo Park Takes on Diabetes

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and as a leading nonprofit committed to improving the nation’s health and well-being, the YMCA of Central Florida is encouraging people in Central Florida to learn their risks for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes and take the steps to prevent the disease through programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program.  During National Diabetes Awareness Month, our Tangelo Park YMCA is encouraging yout to take control of your health and learn if you are at risk for type 2 diabetes by visiting http://www.ymca.net/diabetes-prevention/risk.html. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, is a year-long program with 16 one-hour classroom sessions, then monthly maintenance. A trained lifestyle coach helps participants learn strategies for healthy eating, physical activity and other lifestyle changes. The goal is for participants to lose 7 percent of their body weight and increase their physical activity to 150 minutes per week. Know your numbers in just minutes.
