Youth basketball clinics at the YMCA of Central Florida are designed to help young athletes build confidence, sharpen fundamentals, and get game-ready in a short amount of time. Led by experienced coaches, each clinic combines focused skill training with high-energy instruction in a supportive, small-group environment.
Whether your child is just getting started or preparing for their next season, our co-ed clinics provide the tools they need to step onto the court with confidence—or transition into one of our recreational league or training programs. Players leave feeling prepared, confident, and ready to play.
Focus Areas:
- Dribbling, shooting, defense, fundamentals
- Skill refinement and repetition
- Confidence building in a short timeframe
Basketball isn’t just about scoring points. It helps kids build coordination, strength, and confidence while learning teamwork and discipline. At the Y, we create a positive and supportive environment where every player can grow, no matter their starting point.

What’s the difference between basketball Clinics, Leagues, and Skills Academy programs?
Great question! Our basketball programs are designed to meet youth where they are and help them grow at every stage—whether they’re just getting started or ready for more competitive play.
Clinics → Leagues → Skills Academy → Competitive Teams
- Clinics = Get Ready
Youth Basketball Clinics are short-term sessions focused on skill-building and preseason preparation. Perfect for building confidence quickly before games begin. - Leagues = Get in the Game
Our Jr. Magic Youth Basketball League gives players the chance to practice, play games, and experience teamwork in a fun, structured environment. - Skills Academy = Get Better
The Basketball Skills Academy focuses on long-term development with ongoing sessions that build skills, strategy, and game IQ over time. - Competitive Teams = Compete at the Next Level
The Spartans Youth Basketball Team is designed for athletes ready for a higher level of competition and commitment.
What should my child wear and bring to the YMCA Basketball Clinic?
Your child must wear non-marking athletic shoes (basketball shoes preferably), comfortable athletic clothing, and a water bottle.
How do I know if a basketball clinic is right for my child?
Clinics are a great fit if your child:
- Is new to basketball and wants to learn the basics
- Needs a confidence boost before joining a league
- Wants to improve specific skills like shooting or dribbling
- Prefers a short-term commitment instead of an ongoing program
If your child is looking for consistent, long-term improvement, the Basketball Skills Academy may be a better fit.
Do basketball clinics include games?
Clinics focus primarily on skill development through drills and small-group instruction. While some sessions may include scrimmage-style play, the main goal is to prepare players for game situations—like those in our Jr. Magic Youth Basketball League.
Can my child join a clinic before signing up for a league?
Absolutely. In fact, that’s one of the best ways to get started. Clinics help players feel more confident and prepared before joining a league or team—whether that’s recreational play or something more competitive like the Spartans Youth Basketball Team.
Are clinics available at multiple locations?
Yes! Youth Basketball Clinics are offered at select YMCA Family Centers across Central Florida. Check the “Register for Your Program” section below to find a location near you.
