Tools You'll Need

  • Measuring cups
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Two rubber spatulas
  • Two heat-proof glass or ceramic mixing bowls
  • Cooking pot
  • Rolling pin
  • Toothpick, wooden skewer, or chopstick

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup candy canes, crushed (4 candy canes)
  • 1½ cups white chocolate chips
  • 1½ cups milk/dark chocolate chips
  • 2–3 drops peppermint oil (optional)

Directions

  1. Crush candy canes

Place unwrapped candy canes in a sealable plastic bag and gently crush using a rolling pin until candy is broken into small pieces and set aside.

  2. Separate chocolate chips

Place 1 cup each of milk/dark chocolate chips in a heat-proof glass or ceramic bowl, and 1 cup of white chips in another heat-proof glass or ceramic bowl. Reserve the additional half cups separately.

  3. Line baking sheet

Line a large baking sheet with parchment or wax paper.

  4. Create double boiler

Create a double boiler by heating a few inches of water in a pot and bringing it to a simmer over low heat.

  5. Melt chocolate chips

Place the bowl of milk/dark chocolate chips over the water and stir slowly with a rubber spatula until smooth and the chocolate has melted completely. Remove the bowl using a kitchen towel or oven mitt, and stir in the remaining half cup of milk/dark chocolate chips until smooth.

  6. Melt white chocolate chips

Add additional water (if needed) to the pot and place the bowl of white chocolate chips over simmering water. Using a clean spatula, repeat step 5 with white chocolate.

  7. Spread melted chocolate onto sheet

Spread milk/dark chocolate mixture into an even layer over parchment paper using the back of a spoon or a spatula.

  8. Mix white and dark chocolate chips

Once the white chocolate is melted, dollop a few spoonsful over the milk/dark chocolate.

  9. Swirl the chocolate

Swirl the white chocolate into the milk/dark chocolate using a wooden chopstick or toothpick.

  10. Sprinkle crushed candy canes

When you like the way it looks, sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top.

  11. Chill

Place the sheet in your refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour.

  12. Snack and store

Remove and cut or break into pieces. Enjoy immediately and store the leftovers in an airtight container.
