
YMCA Gymnasium & Adult Sports Guidelines
At the YMCA, we believe in healthy living, respectful community, and shared responsibility. All members and guests must follow these guidelines to ensure a fun, safe, and inclusive space for everyone.

General Gymnasium Rules
- No food or drinks allowed inside the gym.
Closed water bottles and sports drinks are permitted. - No foul language, fighting, or aggressive behavior allowed.
- No speakers or personal audio devices without staff approval.
- Shirts and athletic sneakers must be worn at all times.
- Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.
Exception: YMCA-led programs. - No hanging from rims or nets.
- Basketballs may be checked out at the front desk.
- Team practices are only allowed during YMCA programs or with staff approval.
- Gym hours are subject to change without notice.
YMCA Pickleball Guidelines
Pickleball at the YMCA is a community-focused sport built on fun, fellowship, and fair play. All skill levels are welcome!
General Rules
- Eligible Ages: All Plus and Max members aged 13+ may participate.
- Basic gameplay knowledge is required.
- First-time players should speak with a staff member for an orientation.
- We are an inclusive and respectful community.
- Disrespect toward others or equipment will not be tolerated.
- For assistance, contact a YMCA staff member.
- All players must follow the YMCA Code of Conduct.
Equipment & Setup
- Players are responsible for setting up and breaking down nets.
Staff may assist when available. - Only YMCA-provided balls are allowed.
- YMCA is not liable for lost or damaged personal equipment.
Scoring & Gameplay
- Rally scoring is used.
- Games played to 15 (win by 2), hard stop at 17.
May adjust to 11 points (win by 1) at staff discretion. - Serving: Team on the far baseline (from entrance) serves first.
- Line Calls: Receiving side calls balls in/out.
If teammates disagree, the opponent gets the call.
Court Rotation
- Winners stay on with a 2-game limit.
- After 2 wins, all 4 players rotate off.
- A “Pickle” (0-point loss) does not count as a win.
🔹 Waitlist System
- Use the paddle holder to join the waitlist.
- After each match, the next 2 players rotate in.
- If 6+ players are waiting, 4 rotate off, 4 rotate in.
- Absent players will lose their spot and go to the back of the line.
🔹 Competitive vs Recreational Play
Competitive (3.0+ skill level)
Advanced play expectations:
- Fast-paced rallies
- 3rd shot drops and dink rallies
- Strong mobility and strategy
Players not meeting this level may be asked to switch courts.

Recreational (1.0–3.0 skill level)
Beginners to intermediate level:
- Basic understanding of rules
- Ability to serve, return, and keep score
Players may be asked to sit out if safety is a concern.
🔹 Court Assignments
- Court 3 (Right): Recreational / lower-competitive
- Court 2 (Middle): Intermediate-level play
- Court 1 (Left – Challenge Court): Advanced/competitive only
Enter with a partner. Winning team remains; challenges rotate in.
Court availability may change due to other YMCA programs.
🏀 21+ Adult Basketball Rules
- All players must be 21+ years old
Staff may request ID. - Games use both courts when available
Full-court allowed with fewer than 10 players per staff approval. - Games are 4v4, played to 11 points (1’s and 2’s) or 11-minute timer
If tied, next basket wins. - First 16 players signed in will play the first set.
- All players must sign in in person (no holding spots).
- Losing team must re-sign in to join the waitlist.
- Winners rotate to Court 1.
⚽ Adult Futsal Rules (Ages 18+)
This coed program promotes community through respect, teamwork, and high-energy play.
Program runs Tuesdays from 7–9 PM. Teams form at 7:00 PM. Please arrive on time.
🔹 On-Field Conduct
- Call fouls by saying “FOUL” or raising your hand—no arguing.
- No rough play, slide tackles, elbows, or aggressive behavior.
- No cleats, jewelry, or non-sport eyewear.
- No cursing, complaining, or shouting at others.
- Respect captains and their role in conflict resolution.
- Share concerns privately with your captain.
- New rules (if any) take effect the following game.
We encourage generosity on and off the field.
🔹 Game Breakdown
- Team selection happens at 7:00 PM
Captains are expected to know rules and lead respectfully. - Reversible pinnies approved by YMCA may be required
(Contact captain for cost/purchase info.) - Max 28 players, forming 4 teams of 7 (1 sub per team)
Late arrivals must wait if teams are full.
Game Rotation Rules
4-Team Format:
- Winners stay on field
- Ties = both teams off
3-Team Format:
- Winner stays
- Tie = most recent team on the field stays
Captains must pre-select a “3rd chosen player” if a 4th team must be created.
🔹 Other Notes
- Players must accept team selection
Declining to join a team means forfeiting your right to play. - Authorized guests may play if space allows and must follow all rules.

Phillips YMCA, reservations for Lap Swim Workout, Group Exercise Class, Racquetball and Handball Courts, and the Basketball Gymnasium are mandatory.
