Ages 5–12 Years

In these lessons, students learn more about personal water safety.

Following the national YMCA of the USA swimming curriculum, the student’s developmental levels determine which skills we introduce and build on as they progress. They will start by becoming comfortable with underwater exploration and learn how to safely exit a body of water should they ever accidentally fall in. Then, children will advance to focusing on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement within the water. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke techniques so they’ll develop skills that prevent chronic disease while increasing social, emotional, and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.
