What certifications do YMCA personal trainers have?
All YMCA Personal Trainers hold certifications that are nationally recognized and they must remain current in their certifications during their employment. The YMCA accepts the following certifications for our Personal Trainers:
- American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)
- National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM)
- National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
- American Council on Exercise (ACE)
- World Instructor Training School (WITS)
- International Sports Science Association (ISSA)
- Or a related 4-year degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or physical therapy
Does my program include nutrition counseling?
Our YMCA Personal Trainers will primarily focus on your workouts and exercise habits. While most personal trainers aren’t certified dietitians, they’ll address basic nutritional concepts with you that will help you achieve your goals.
Do I have to be a member at the Y to get a personal trainer?
Yes, affordable personal training is a benefit of being a YMCA member.
What happens if I miss a session?
You have the opportunity to make up your session within the current month. If you don’t make it up in the allotted period of time, you’ll lose it. Unused sessions don’t carry over to the following month.
If I have to pause my sessions, can I resume them at any time?
The sessions must be used within 30 calendar days from the time of purchase. If circumstances arise where you can’t use all of your sessions, contact the Wellness Director at your family center to determine the best options for pausing or cancelling your sessions.
Is there a discount if I train with my partner/friend/family member?
Small Group and Partner Training are often a more affordable option for members, however, you won’t receive the same personalized results as one-on-one training. If you’re looking for a truly customized approach, our Commitment Sessions are offered at a discounted rate from the Single Package and make training even more affordable!
Can I cancel at any time and get a refund?
We require a seven-day cancellation notice from your draft date. Sessions are non-refundable and non-transferable, however, we encourage you to use any remaining balance of sessions that you have upon cancelling.
Do I pay upfront or in installments?
Your payments will depend on your plan. Commitment Sessions are on a continuous draft structure that allows you to pay at a reduced rate. Single Package, Small Group, and Partner Training must be paid upfront.
Can I choose my draft date?
The draft date will be the date that you sign up, and you’ll automatically draft on that day every month.
Can I upgrade or downgrade my plan at any time during the fixed monthly draft?
No. If you’d like to switch your plan, we’ll work with you to cancel the existing draft and re-enroll in a new one.
If I am on scholarship, will the discount be applied?
No, scholarship rates aren’t applied to personal training.
8–11 Years
With parents present, kids may use cardio machines and participate in appropriate group exercise classes.
12–15 Years
Teens may use cardio machines, participate in all group exercise classes, and utilize strength circuits (no free weights).
16+ Years
Full access to all equipment and group exercise classes.
Omnia and Kinesis classes are only available at select family centers. Please fill out the form below for additional information.
Omnia
Omnia is a functional training system that maximizes members’ interaction with their certified personal trainers. Learn the infinite possibilities in training for strength, endurance, stability, flexibility coordination, and speed! Classes are limited to eight participants per class and are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Signups can be completed at Member Services.
Kinesis
Kinesis is a continuous-loop resistance system that frees users from any restrictions of resistance equipment and cable machines. Members can transform their traditional workout into a functional training session for a total-body workout all on one Kinesis station. Classes are limited to eight participants per class and are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. Signups can be completed at Member Services.
