Offering Food Distribution for Neighbors in Need at South Orlando YMCA

On Saturday, August 15, the Y hosted a food distribution at the South Orlando Y to help our community.

Thanks to our generous partners at Simply Fresh and Farmers to Families, we were able to provide 1,400 boxes of fresh produce to neighbors in need!

Chef Gary Appelsies, the YMCA of Central Florida’s Director of Healthy Eating, speaks on the importance of events like these:

“Food insecurity has always been a serious issue, but now more than ever the need for families and individuals to put food on their table is even greater. The COVID pandemic has affected people from all walks of life. As part of our social responsibility here at the YMCA of Central Florida, we realize that the members of our community are in need and we’re stepping in when and where we can to help support them and their loved ones. I’m so proud of our organization and volunteers for coming together in this time of critical need to support our community and feed over thousands of families.”

The event included 20 volunteers helping hand out over 14,000 pounds of vegetables, fruits, salad mixes, and more!

The Y is honored to be able to help our community as we all weather this season together. The faithful support of our members, donors, and people like you allows us to continue our commitment to improving lives in Central Florida no matter the circumstances.
